Customise the name of your exports

By default, an export is named after the form. Find out how to customise it.

This name is set from the home page of the form's export setup. It applies to all formats, including custom-made Word, Excel and PDF exports, unless their template specifies another one.

In the Forms menu, My forms tab, click the Modify button of your form. From its setup, click the Export setup button at the top right.

1. Naming standard exports

When a form is created, only standard exports are available: PDF, Excel list and CSV. By default, their files are named after the form.

To customise the name, use the Edit the name of the exported files field.

The name you enter applies to all of these formats.

Then click Save.

💡 Tip

Tags work for PDF, but not for Excel list or CSV: they would appear as is in the file name. It is recommended to enter a fixed text name.

2. Naming custom-made exports

Each custom-made export template can have its own file name. If it has none, the name defined on the home page of the export setup is used.

This name can combine fixed text and tags (the list is available in the Information tab of the form options).

💡 Tip

Tags work for custom-made Word, Excel and PDF exports, but not for Excel list or CSV: it is recommended to enter a fixed text name.

Do not mix up the two fields in this setup: Name of the export is the name of the template, whereas Edit the name of the exported files defines the name of the downloaded files.

To fill it in:

  • click Modify next to the relevant template;

  • enter the name you want in the Edit the name of the exported files field;

  • click Save.

In the example below, the name combines fixed text and the ##last_name## and ##first_name## tags:

ℹ️ Good to know

As browsers do not all have the same rules regarding allowed characters, it is advised not to use » < and > in the name of your export files.
